The ‘Fair Deal Scheme’ is an Irish Government scheme of financial support for people who need long-term nursing home care.
You make a contribution towards the cost of your care and the State pays the balance.
This applies whether the nursing home is public, private or voluntary. The HSE administers the Fair Deal Scheme within the resources available.
Applicants cannot avail of State funding for a nursing home place PRIOR to receiving approval of their application.
The great benefit of Fair Deal is the opportunity to choose which nursing home is most suitable.
The scheme is open to anyone who has been living in the State for at least a year.
